Cost Estimate Example for a Software Development Project.
Software development cost estimate is a document that states expected time and money effort for a software solution development. It is an approximate budget worked out by a project manager after receiving an inquiry from a client. Solution cost estimate is used to establish a development budget submitted to client for an approval.
Estimate is based on information available, though it is not necessarily the detailed information. This document defines a range of activities (e.g. modules development, software solution testing, web design), hours per each activity and the cost of work. Cost estimate also names the project team, technologies and other items necessary for the solution development.
Appraisal of the solution costs is based on project manager knowledge, which is a result of working on similar projects. Manager considers time and effort needed to complete the project, as well as the cost of the programming blocks already developed. The work effort depends upon the size of the activities to be completed, the methods chosen, the team experience and the project size (especially when calculating costs of management and software testing activities). Client provides the project description and project manager knowing the work effort for each activity computes the cost of each activity with the formula
Cost = Work * cost rate per hour.
The total cost is a sum of all activities costs. The estimate of a solution development with AITOC is emailed within 24 hours after a project description is provided by the client.
