We are glad to announce that Open Social API from Google is now available in phpFox. This means that phpFox has become a member of the large Open Social family that includes, among others, such well-known and popular communities as MySpace, Hi5, Orkut, Friendster, Ning and Yahoo!
Our Open Social Module gives you an opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of the API - like using Open Social Gadgets and sharing data between different Open Social communities by means of Gadgets.
The peculiarity of phpFox is that it is not exactly a community portal like the ones mentioned above. It is a platform that enables you to build your own social community site. This means that your phpFox site with Open Social support will become a real Open Social Container with its own collection of Gadgets and its own Gadget access policies. But you don’t just get the plain functionality for running Open Social Gadgets, you also get a set of features to manage all that.
System requirements:
- UPDATE: Now supports IIS.
- php version: 5.2.x
- php extensions: 'json', 'SimpleXML', 'libxml', 'curl', 'openssl', 'mcrypt'
- php.ini values: always_populate_raw_post_data = On (recommended),

- An ability to define whether members will be able to add Gadgets by direct URL and the quantity of URL Gadgets in general and specifically for each Membership. You can use your members to find and test Gadgets added by direct XML URL.
- Define the total quantity of Open Social Gadgets (from your site list and by URL), which each membership will be allowed to add/use. This will let you segment your Memberships even more with corresponding Gadgets.

The User Types module is a good solution for those, who want their phpFox community to better match the main theme of the site.
Normally we run a community, which is devoted to some specific theme (niche, idea). It can be community for musicians, real estate, gamers, sports, bikers or whatever. In common, these guys like to belong to a specific user type, which lies directly in their sphere of interest. Anyone who once tried to organize user types, include them into memberships, set membership privileges, access knows that it not an easy deal.
So, go ahead with our new User Types module if you:
- need user types to include memberships;
- want to differentiate members’ privileges within and access to various features one User Type, depending on free or paid membership;
- "Hide Membership" feature – if enabled, the membership will not be displayed on the subscribe page, only admin can add members to the membership;
- want your members to choose a User Type and Membership directly during Sign Up and don’t waste time filling in general unnecessary fields;
- want to have each User Type and Membership a unique list of fields on public Profile, plus ability for members to have a consistent and more effective Browse section.

AITOC User Types is full of features, which should help you make a real custom phpFox community, with unique content, being even more independent of the basic functionality. Detailed description and screenshots.
